4th Rochford provided the usual excellent lunch and a welcome break before we moved on to St Andrew's.

First stop of the day was St Andrews Ashingdon. Janet and John showed us around the church and set a quiz.

Pat and Allan got up early to make breakfast; fortunately everybody survived the night to enjoy it.

Plumberow Mount & 2nd Hawkwell

After a short rest at Plumberow Mount, we arrived at 2nd Hawkwell's hut. Unfortunately it rained for the last mile. Hotdogs were served and then it was time for bed. We hope to get a bit of sleep tonight...

St Peter & St Paul

We walked thought Hockley Wood and on to St Peter & St Paul where Gina and Gavin gave us a quick introduction to the church, some of which dates back 800 years.

Bramerton Community Church

The 2011 hike started at Bamerton Community Church. Trevor gave the Cubs a talk about the history of the church, including the story of the "Funeral Door".

And then we were off.

The Pre-hike meeting was held at 2nd Hawkwell on Monday. Fully breifed and all questions answered, the hikers were looking forward to the hike.

After walking through Hockley Woods we finally arrived at journey's end: Holy Trinity.

After a short break Jackie talked about the church and gave out a quiz.

Belchamps gave the Cubs a chance to spend their pocket money which had been burning holes in their pockets. Quite a queue!

Sporting our St George hike t-shirts, we had our closing ceremony and set off for Belchamps.

Second night

The Cubs prepared to sleep outside in survival bags. They were soon asleep, with all but a few making it through the night without moving into the hall.

After dodging the horses, we arrived at St Mary's slightly ahead of schedule, so there was time for a quick rest.

Jim told the Cubs about the church and sent them off to search for the answers to a quiz.

After lunch we crossed the golf course to St Andrew's

After singing our way through Rochford (they now know we're from Crouch Valley), we had an excellent lunch provided by John & Jo, with help from Rebecca and Emma.

We arrived at St Nicholas around 10 o'clock after walking through the old RAF camp at Camp Farm.

Muriel gave a presentation on a year in the life of the church.

Then it was time for a drink and a biscuit and a quick game or two,

Muriel was presented a certificate of appreciation.

The Crouch Valley District Hike is a weekend hike for the older Cubs, connecting the Parish Churches of Ashingdon, Canewdon, Hawkwell, Hockley, Rayleigh, Rochford and Stambridge. We will be posting photos of the hike at intervals over the weekend.
